All of the AeroPress parts except the silicone seal and the paper filters have been made of polypropylene since July of 2014. We switched to using polypropylene because tests indicated the polypropylene is more durable than other materials we had previously used. Silicone is also extremely tough meaning AeroPress coffee makers are the now the most durable they have ever been. Materials used in AeroPress coffee makers are free of BPA and phthalates, and are made in the USA. Read more

It’s been almost a year since my purchase and I have used this every day sometimes more than once. I have tried some other French press and drip options along the way but nothing is as fast and as easy to clean as this. I have not had any problems with the rubber seal as some have stated. I don’t get the cleaning complaints at all. Just a rinse and done. I have tried other paper options but I didn’t see any improvement in taste enough to justify the slower press time through the thicker paper. Stick with the AP paper. I know it says up to 12 ounces but I do a 16 oz cup. Basically I grind my own and the size does make a difference in bitterness or a smooth cup. For me the middle section 3 out of 5 on my grinder is perfect. I use the scooper that came with this and fit as many whole beans as I can get on it and put in a rechargeable grinder. I do a espresso immersion method(2 minutes), then press to my cup, and then add the hot water. Just like that I have an Americano! I know some use 175 degrees for the water but I like 195 from my electric kettle. I add a little non fat milk so it cools it a little. Maybe black the 175 would be ok…I’m no coffee snob or coffee fanatic, but I love a good cup of Joe. Problem is I’ve never been able to have a great coffee while camping. Tried percolators and they always were off and bland. This did the job twice as quick and 10x better. This has been the best investment I’ve made! It is very easy to use and clean up is easy. It takes just a couple minutes to prepare and make your coffee, cold brew or espresso. The flavor is rich and I can definitely say that my coffee is less acidic! I am now enjoying homemade coffee so much more.I've always loved making coffee.First of all, please excuse this long long post, but it's well worth the read if you're looking to purchase something portable, easy to clean, versatile, and fun to experiment with (Yes, I'm still talking about the AeroPress). The French press gives you fantastic coffee and should never be undervalued. But the French press also takes more time waiting than I would prefer, and gives very little room for error to achieve a good brew. Keep your coffee in the press for an extra minute, and all of a sudden you've got an over-extracted coffee. In a hurry and need to run to work? French press doesn't care. French press waits for no one, and takes its time - like an entitled French bulldog. If you're a fan of the Chemex or other pour-over methods, I was never on that bandwagon, but I can appreciate the "go do your thing while it does its thing" mentality - you pour your grounds and your water in the pour-over receptacle, and just let it work its magic while you go brush your teeth or walk your Golden Retriever (open the front door and wait for that telltale scratch to open it again). That's exactly what the Chemex is - A Golden Retriever. You open your front door, aka pour the grounds and water, and walk away until it's ready to be opened again in the case of the door, and drank in the case of the coffee. This baby here, however, is no entitled French Press/Bulldog, needing constant and persistent attention, nor is it a Golden Chemex/Retriever, doing its thing while you do yours (with consistent but relatively mediocre results). The AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker (frankly it's no espresso maker if you want to drink the shot as an espresso - more on that in a minute) is a well rounded easy to use versatile machine that I can only compare to a bred and "born trained" German Shepherd. The recommended dosage you get with the AeroPress is good on its own, but is no word of god. Think of it as a starting block to initiate you to your journey of amateur artisanal home coffee-making.While you are technically able to make an espresso shot with the AeroPress, it does not give you the same results one would expect in a real espresso shot from an espresso machine; ie: no creamy delicious texture with foamy coffee hug floating on top.You CAN, however, make the espresso shot you need for the base of many drink such as cappuccino, or cafe latte (basically the same thing, but the latter is missing the prior's custom made milk mustache we all used to love doing as children). You can also make a normal American coffee similar to pour overs (but oh so much more heavenly and delicious) by adding hot water to the espresso shots.Suggested dosage:I personally like using espresso ground coffee (or even turkish, depending on my mood), and pouring 2.5 hefty teaspoons into the AeroPress INVERTED (filter side up, with the filter plug-in removed).I then bring 12 oz of water to an early-simmer, or around 93-95*C, and fill the AeroPress to the max, right before the filter line.I then proceed to paddle my way through the coffee grounds, stirring for 10 to 12 seconds, then top the AeroPress with the filter and press firmly. It should all pour into the mug in about 7 to 10 seconds.I then top my mug with the leftover water from the 12oz, which should be about the same amount as you poured into the AeroPress (6oz into the press, 6oz into the mug). This yields a not too strong, but definitely not average strength cup of coffee. If you want a Cafe latte, like my girlfriend does (and so does my mother as a matter of fact), then fill the AeroPress with 2 to 4oz (depending on the resired strength or final color) of hot water, and press it firmly into a mug.Next, microwave 8-10oz of milk (don't need to be exact) with a half teaspoon of honey (or 1tsp sugar if you want to be unhealthy) for about 1-1.5 minutes depending on how hot she likes it (most women don't like it too hot, but hotter than warm. If it's warm, it's not warm enough. If it's hot, it's too warm. Once you've mastered the temperature skill for your significant other, congratulations! you've mastered 5% of what her emotional roller-coaster seems to be from a man's perspective). I digress.Once you've warmed your milk, look up a few million youtube videos on how to make a heart shape or a flower, etc... which is what I did to try to be romantic and creative.Or skip that step and pour the milk into the coffee - Let's face it, you're not going to succeed at making that heart! But the flavor, I can guarantee, will be mind-boggling!Cheers guys, happy crafting!EDIT: The best feature of this little baby is how easy it is to clean. Takes about 3 seconds flat. Cheers.I bought this for camping but tried it out at home prior to a trip. I’m going to be using this at home and camping now, may have to buy another, maybe a GO for the camping kit. The coffee definitely lives up to the hype. I own a Keurig, a French press, and a drip machine, this makes the best coffee out of all of them. Coffee has a clean flavor, no grounds floating around in the cup, no bitterness, no expensive K-Cup. Only downside is if you’re making coffee for more than two people and making multiple cups. After experimenting and watching a couple of YouTube videos, I like the end result.Being stuck, working from home it dawned on me that the one I thing missed from being in the office is real coffee which the on site coffee shop served. Obviously professional coffee machines cost a small fortune and I wasn't willing to pay that much for the quality. A friend recommended the Aeropress to me and my research started. It seemed there are a lot of people who take this very seriously and apparently an American TV programme blind-tasted the Aeropress against the best coffee machines and the Aeropress won. This convinced me to part way with less than £30 which is insignificant when compared to the coffee machines. My research put me in good stead when the package arrived from Amazon so as soon as it arrived I rinsed it out and started making my coffee. I bought Illy coffee from Amazon too and both arrived together the next day. The coffee the Aeropress produces is magnificent, smooth and strong just how I like it. If you wanted it stronger or weaker you can adjust how much coffee you use and I'm sure as time goes on I will tweak how I use it. I use the Inverted Method which you can search online for and this apparently produces a better coffee.I am now into the swing of things and by the time I'm ready to drink my coffee the parts are already rinsed out and ready for my next drink.I would highly recommend this item if you like nice coffee but don't want an expensive coffee machine, you will not be disappointed. If you found this review helpful please press the button below.Bought this and the Staresso for the office, since the machine makes an undrinkable black tar. The Staresso got used exactly twice, whereas I use the AeroPress around 3 times a day.Nothing particularly wrong with the other device, different niche, it can make espresso, this one can't. It's just down to the ease of use and cleaning. You can make an AeroPress coffee and clean up in literally a minute, two tops, and after the first few times pretty much do it on autopilot: scoop coffee, hot water, stir, filter in the lid, close, turn over, press, open, hold it over the bin, eject the puck (with a quite satisfying kind of ker-chonk), vaguely wave it under the tap, done. Whereas the other device has fiddly little metal cups and things that you'll be trying to scoop the used grounds out of after making the coffee. So yeah, if you're wondering if it'll be ok to use at work - this is the one to get. ;-)I've been looking at these for about 5 years as an option to drink none instant coffee at work but never bothered because despite hearing how good the coffee is I always thought they where faffy and took time. I've tried cafetiere cups but they continue to brew the coffee and are messy to clean with look watery coffee grounds to pour into the bin after.I finally bit the bullet and got one on a whim and can't believe how quick and easy it is and how fast it is to clean. I've never really read reviews about people using them in busy offices but this is ideal for it!It takes seconds to brew the coffee and condenses the grounds into a puck that you can drop straight into the bin and it good to go with a quick wipe. I wish I'd brought one years ago.I've been looking through Amazon reviews for coffee makers and I was beginning to think that I would be having to fob out at least £100 for a decent coffee maker and probably be locked into pods of one particular brand or another. My main reason for wanting a coffee maker was the amount of time it was taking me to clean up cafetieres - what a malarkey - but at least I could still use any brand of coffee that I wanted to with this method. By sheer chance I managed to come across a mention in one of the reviews for the AeroPress coffeemaker which seemed a lot cheaper.I went on to YouTube and discovered that this particular coffeemaker, which is hugely cheaper than the price I was originally expecting to pay, had garnered a big following, almost a cult-like following, and there were lots of reviews and methodology for the AeroPress. Okay, I was hooked and I thought I'd would want to see what it was like. When it arrived, with tote bag, 350 filters and various bits and bobs I was impressed. Very professional package I thought. I'd also ordered some metal filters as various reviews of these have been pretty favourable. On to making the coffee. There are two major methods - the inverted method and the normal method and both are pretty easy to master with one viewing of a YouTube video. It's also possible to use either the metal filters or the paper filters and both produce different results in the tastes of the coffee. The paper filter seems to clean out virtually all the of the coffee leaving a very pure coffee drink. My previous cafetiere coffee always seem to leave a certain amount of mud at the bottom of the cup - not so with the AeroPress. The metal filter did leave residue but not very much and results in a stronger blend. But the main reason for the purchase was cleanup. I have to say that the AeroPress scores very highly here. It's way easier to dispose of the grounds in my normal rubbish bin and it is even possible to retrieve the paper filter to use again. Apparently, the company recommends that you do reuse the paper filter. Given that you've already got 350 of them, one reuse takes this up to 700 cups, and they're pretty cheap to reorder anyway. If you're really lazy, cleanup takes approximately 5 seconds - after pressing the coffee into the cup, screw off the end and press the grounds into the bin. Genius! All in all, I am a very happy coffee drinker now. I can use any coffee I like, I can use the frother that I purchased at the same time to make superb cappuccinos, and cleanup takes me next to no time. Not only this, I can use a variety of methods to produce exactly the coffee I want at any particular time. This has to be one of the best things I've ever bought off Amazon! And just a word of praise here, I even had it delivered a day earlier than originally scheduled.
